Had a leaky input shaft seal on the steering gear box. Pulled the input, swapped the seals and now I’m trying to get things reinstalled.

Not sure if I’m missing a trick, but everything shows just screwing or all back in to the same preload. I get about halfway and things get tight. I have about half as much threads to go as are showing in the pict, but I can’t get it to go further. Any tricks that I’m missing?

Call me crazy but if you are saying it threads on that much more than what I see that leaves enough thread for the giant lock nut that threads over the outside. Am I missing something? I also do not see where you have installed the internal snap ring but maybe this is not "done" yet.

I did the same thing yesterday and mine threaded back in exactly where it was prior to removal. It's possible that when you pulled it out you accidentally pulled the stub shaft causing it to come off the pins in the worm shaft, or less likely the spool valve became un-aligned with the stub shaft. Around the 55min mark of this video shows what I'm talking about.
