Nice Hobie, man! From Florida here, so I've seen my share of capstans. I never considered sailing in this part of the country.

I have owned a bunch of small boats....Hobie's,sunfish,lasers,505's,and the ultra quick tornado cat. I do mostly big boat racing now but I remember the Hobie's well.

Nice boat. My Dad had a catamaran when I was little. I can only remember going out on it once and being scared to death that "Jaws" was going to get me. haha How is sailing on lakes here compared to sailing at the ocean?

lakes are miserable unless the water is white capping from 10mph winds....then it is fun

oceans can be scary sometimes

got a 14' sunfish that i havent takin out in awhile. usually took it up to norman and the beach every summer. me and my dad went out in the waterway during a tropical storm, flipped, and ripped all the rigging lines lol

I don't own a boat myself, but my folks have a 38' Catalina that I usually join them on twice a year for a long w/e. Here are a couple of pictures from a trip out to Cape Lookout we took a few years ago. We anchored a little too close to shore, then the wind shifted during the night and well...

We went sailing with my folks in the British Virgin Islands just a few months ago. They go down there every year for a week or so, and I finally went with them this time. It was a great trip. I'll post a few pictures from that trip later.

purty boat. you guys dig the keel into the sand?? looks like a tricky situation

It has a wing keel, so it just sat down. It was kind of funny. We woke up and felt the boat leaning just a little. My father and I tried to winch it off by dropping an anchor out a ways from the dingy, but it was too late and was hard aground. We had to wait until the tide came back in.

I grew up in sunfish and lasers.

Had a Flying Scot for 13 years, but had to sell it to help with the downpayment on my house in 2002. Kinda looking for another one now. Sold it for $500 less than I paid for it...so it only cost me about $38.50 per year to own it. :) Not bad.

(For those that never owned a boat...the word "BOAT" stands for Bust Out Another Thousand.)

I go once a year for 10 days with my dad on his Catalina 22. Its a blast, and usually we get a blue angles flyover once or twice. (Pensacola Fl)

Get in a good wind, tie the tiller off and sail for hours listening to the keel cable hum. (swing keel)
