Fighting my sammi currently. 1995 with 1.6 8v swap. Lost spark and fuel after a headgasket replacement. Tried a different coil first, didnt change anything. Had the computer repaired in case that was it, as the symtoms were pointing to it, had 3 swollen capacitors. When these certain capacitors go bad it caises a no spark condition which then causes the computer to shut down fuel. Still wont start.
With a spark tester, temporary lights on key on, then occasionaly lights on first and second revolution, then will stop. Checked wires coming to/from distributer, key on they are 12v, ground, then blank (signal) like supposed to but on crank they all ground. I am at a complete loss currently, any help would be greatly appreciated! Its over at a buddies shop, since mine is always overrun with work projects. I will be going over there this afternoon to do some more troubleshooting starting with new underhood grounds, battery, coil, distributer, engine, then a ground to computer and see where that leaves me.

If i cant get it figured out soon im going to find a way to shoehorn a sbc im the damn thing. Thanks in advance

Who repaired the ecu? They could have missed a burned trace. They're bad for lifting traces off the board when the capacitors leak. Also, is the timing belt on correctly? It's easy to get it installed 180° out.

Capacitors never leaked thankfully, they were pretty damn swollen but caught them in time. A buddy of mine did it, he does lots of electronics repairs.

Even if 180 out i would still be getting some sort of fire

I was thinking about the ign switch as well. Swapped out the pickup in distributer and no dice, same thing for the most part.

Well, if you don't have power at the coil/inj while cranking, you have a fault in power, not the sensors.. you could try using a starter switch to see if you have spark key on and turn it over.. (assuming there's power key on) and she should start.. if so def suspect ignition switch

I did not think about bypassing ign on crank, great idea and thank you! Ive just been going down the list of parts that could cause this scenario. Going to run all new grounds to block, battery and ecm as well since they look like shit. Ibe only been able to troubleshoot a little here and there as i have just been too busy and the sammi is over at a buddies
