OK, here is a strange question. We were using our next door neighbors wireless internet no problems, well the day we got our Direct TV installed.. No internet access?!?! It hasnt come back since, and I dont think our neighbor would block us our or even know how to. Do you think the sat freq. would interfere with the 2.4 Ghz freq. they are transmitting? Is it even the same? Any ideas besides knocking on the neighbors door and asking?

no real clue, except...
you should be able to open the wifi client and see what signals you are seeing.
If it is secured it will be there but yellow color (depending on program) and say it has security enabled.

If it doesnt see it at all then either something has blocked it or they may have turned it off at the same time.

If nothing else knock on the door and ask them if they have wireless if they say yes, tell them yours has been acting up and wanted to know if they had any problems....

I run Direct TV and I have my own wireless internet, and I can also see 2 or 3 of my neighbors wireless Internet. So I would not think that direct tv could interfere with it.

They could have turned there internet off, or like mention before just noticed you were using there internet and secured there access point. So you might just have to start paying for your internet like you are suppose to.

In most access points there is an option to hide it from discovery. Your neighbor may have been playing around with their set up and decided that was a good idea to enable for their protection.

Probably so. Might have to go over there and see whats up. Thanks yall!

they either did away with it all together or secured with a WEP key. if they hid it then you could still cconnect to it. If they used a WEP key and you guys are friends then they might give it up. If not you will not be able to connect.

Your Direct TV set up is strictly a receiver. It transmits nothing, so there is no way for it to interfere with the WIFi directly. It's probably a coincidence. It could be as simple as him rearranging his furniture and now you're out of range. WiFi squatters run into this kind of trouble all the time.
