My moto is posted for sale on book of faces. I get a message asking for a phone number, so I provide. Another message says it’s his friend who doesn’t have fb that will call me. He calls me from a GA number, foreign accent, says he is in FL and works on a ship, goes out in a couple days for a month. Wants to transfer me money to hold the bike until he returns. I tell him I don’t feel comfortable holding the bike he has paid for, I want him to give me cash when he picks it up but I’m not waiting a month. He talks about trying to get a shipper to get it and send money to my account. I tell him cash. He says he’ll talk to his friend that has done this before and see if shipper will do cash. Now he has called me back twice and left a voicemail wanting me to call him back.
Thoughts?

Sounds like a scam to me.

Scam. Somehow this will involve a payment for too much money and you will refund the difference and get screwed because the money was never really there to begin with, but since you're legit, you lose yours.

Id tell him to transfer me money.
Let it fully clear (7 days) then who cares. You got yours .

People that work offshore are a pretty strange lot, could be legit.
That is true, but they usually don't buy $3000 motorcycles from a guy in NC through a friend via a shipping agent.

This has nothing to do with that absolute scam. I just really really really really really really really really really really really really want that bike but really really really really really really really really really really really really don't have the funds.
I can afford the bike with enough nickels and dimes. I cannot afford the divorce.

I also vote scam.

I wouldn't waste my time with detail and even discussing actually getting the money transfer, somewhere info fishing will occur. Don't be the fish.

I sell a lot of stuff. One thing I do when I smell a scammer is to think "Is what I have THAT hard for them to find closer to them?"

I have no idea what bike you are selling but does it seem reasonable someone in his situation would want yours this far away?

The above I mentioned plus the "arrangements" scream scam to me as well.
