I see some Chevys that look like they have a d70 under them or a 14 bolt with truss from the factory?

Then I've heard talk of a super 14?

What the deal-e-o?

The "Super 14" is an aftermarket drop-out chunk like a 9" that uses 14 bolt gears.

There's an "HD" 14 bolt housing. Diff cover looks mostly the same, but the housing is ribbed.

Not sure what you're seeing that looks like a truss. Some of the chevies have brake lines or parking brake cable that run diagonally down from the top of the diff... might look like a truss from a distance.

If'n it were me... I'd look for a 3/4 ton 14 bolt FF housing. Thin wall tubes... I think 3.25"ish OD. Throw a lightweight truss on it (a real truss, not this bent 3/8" plate "truss" shit) and some discs, should be about 375# ready to go.

Alot of the 73-91 duallys have 70 rears.

Never seen a facrtory truss on any chevy 8 lug rear. You might be seeing the swaybar.

The "ribbed" part is what I'm referring to. I don't see guys on the trail running them. I wasnt sure of all the disadvantages other than loss of some ground clearance.

Is the super 14 a newer option and you don't see many in the used parts market?

There so new that someone that spent BIG $$$$$ isnt ready to get rid of them this quick or sold to a buddy because of the wait time to get them.

Is this the 14bolt y'all are talking about with the (truss) ribs

The ribbed "HD" housing was just used in some applications. Who knows why GM decided they needed a separate casting, but they're out there. I'd steer clear of them personally just because it's a bigger, heavier casting and it has thicker, heavier tubes. But there's nothing wrong with them.

3/4t and 1t are the same as far as specs go, assuming you're talking about two full floater housings. All the gears are the same, shafts are the same, brake parts swap, etc. IIRC there are a few differences with pre-76 (??), but it's minor stuff... different pinion bearings or something.

There are lots of little variations in tube diameter/thickness. I don't think that any one of them is "better", just that my preference would be to find a lighter-duty housing (thinner tube, slightly smaller OD) and truss it than use one with 3.5" 1/2" wall tubes.

So this is the super14?

I noticed it still has a diff cover and it's a third member ?

Super 14 is an aftermarket piece. Never offered in a factory application.

I personally like the ribbed housing but I wheel a fullsize truck and a little more weight doesn't bother me when its low and adds strength plus it looks cool and thats half the battle
