School me on a cummins 24v

Don't delve into the diesel world other than driving t/t for the past 27 years. I've got an opportunity to part out a 1999 dodge with the 24v cummins. My question is this..What do ya'll think in reality this motor is worth? I don't know a lot of details other than it ran great when it was parked and dead guys don't ...........:driver:
 
As a core the motor is worth ~2,000...if it runs certainly more than that.

Why would you part out the truck whats wrong with it?
 
mileage is in the mid 100's cab is a total loss, short bed, lift kit, aluminum rims,trans/tc are good....just trying to decide what to do with it..ie: rebuild or partout

That's junkyard sit on it forever pricing. I've seen running 12v trucks(needing work but not wrecked) for around $3k.
