I know next to nothing about trucks, but I found a 2002 F250 XLT Super Cab 7.3 manual locally for 11,450. Seems like a good deal but it has 265k on it. Interior looks to be in great shape and the body looks straight, underside looks good too.

Is this too much mileage for the price? I've never owned a diesel before so I honestly have no idea what to expect. I've always understood that the 7.3 is one of those engines that lasts a long time with regular maintenance. It's more than I need right now but I can grow into it.

IMO that's too much considering the mileage.

Considering the mileage, what all is original and what has been replaced and or tampered with. Clutch, injectors, HPOP, etc.

Check for blow by, easy way is get it up to temp, unscrew the oil cap and set on upside down. If it blows off, bad, stays on, it's alright.

A few things are finicky to have to change out but they're solid motors.

Look for rust under the bed area, that's a pretty common area for all f series.

Keep in mind that any repairs that you don't do yourself will cost a bit more than a gasser. Oil changes cost a little more to, and factor in fuel filters to.

If you want it and you think it's a good deal, go for it man. Sell it in a few months and break even or make a dollar.

Someone else can, and will, probably have more info but that's something if anything.

Oh yea, plan on a turbo upgrade with wicked wheel. 02 stutters at certain pulls, or at least my friends did.

One of my best friends is selling his 97 F250, 4x4, 7.3, manual tranny, extcab, short bed, I think about 160k miles. Mechanically it is excellent, cosmetically fine. He wants to get $10k out of it, and the miles may be lower than I remember. I can get more info if you're interested.

Rust on the bed supports, they ALL end up getting rust there at some point

Good call. I went by to look at it tonight and the bed supports are a total mess. All have significant rust, and one is rusted clean through and partially collapsed.

I wasn't really in the market for one of these right now anyway, otherwise I'd check out that 97. This one just popped up locally and thought it was worth a look.

Based on the obs fb pages That’s about half, or less, than they are going for.

That's way too high. My friend just sold his 7.3 F350 4x4 crew cab no rust for 6k.
Sure. And I could have sold it for $5k. And around Charlotte he might have got $15k for it to the right person.
