I'm looking at ripping the the worn out shingles off the roof and replacing it w metal. My house is not huge. The roof is simple, one deck on the back w a cross gable on the front. We have lots of trees and leaves that pile up on the roof and the 2 valleys that I have to clean along w the gutters many times each fall.
I'm thinking a metal roof would shed the leaves and getting the gutters removed would letting the runoff/leaves just pour off the roof. I would grade swales and rock etc. to send the water away from the foundation.
I'm also thinking I could rip off the shingles and repair/replace the shingles w metal roof in sections, replacing the deck and vents etc. as I go.

I appreciate any advice, good, bad or ugly.

if only a single layer of shingles you do not need to remove them. However the manufacture I used recomended a specific underlayment to keep the warranty. I put the underlayment and then the sheeting. I did my own roof and is has 4 valleys and a chimney cricket. from 6/12 pitch to 4/12 pitch. Be sure to trim the shingle even with the edge of the wood all around the roof. 1.5 -2" over hang. and a 1-1.5" gap at the top. Also inspect the wood before you start, you don't want soft spots where the screws just strips out. (a little silicone will fix) run string line at the bottom and have a helper keep it lined up. If you get crooked you can cheat the sheets by lifting the center an inch and screwing the outer rib after securing the seam.

I measured out every sheet and had all cut to length. So in the valleys it made super easy.
