I’m looking for your favorite resource for older 4x4’s. I need several things for my 76 K5. I’ve used Pull-A-Part in both Winston and Charlotte for years, but their inventory of older trucks is basically nonexistent now. And their prices have jumped considerably also. We have a couple other hole in the wall places here in Lexington. But they have also crushed all the old stuff and cater towards the late models.

Please share if you are willing. Thank you.

Your about 10 years too late,at least.Ive made a living for the last 20 years dealin w yards and hustling Junk. The days of the good old yards are gone.Alot of times the family didn't want any part of the parts buisness and when metal got so high, they crushed out, cashed out and went to the house.Use to the way I gauged a good (for me) yard was by what they had on the counter.A computer and the hotline echoing in the background equaled mostly late model stuff and high-er prices.no comp or hot line equals most likely older stuff and lower prices.Alot of yards now are selling out to one comp and will be late model only. Some w parts that are only five years are less old.Im in TN so my recommendations of where to go wont help. The days of goin to the JY and walking around looking for good stuff are over. Most wont let you past the lobby.

Anybody remember a yard over around Mnt Airey NC??? Holders I think it was??? The drag racing preacher???

Would be easier to buy a whole truck, or list all the parts you need... I know of a few 70-79 k5s may be hiding away but usually not for sale!

What parts are you looking for?

Check w/ Nifong's in Thomasville. He's off of Light Rd (connects w/ Mt. Zion Church Rd. and Denton Rd.). He used to deal in mainly Fords but pretty sure he's branched out a bit now.

Post up what you need.
I dont quite qualify as a junk yard but eve got 3 running K5. 2 in process projects and (I think) 13 parts vehicles now...

Whites auto salvage near king had a lot of old stuff at one time but I haven’t been there in several years.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I know it is a lot tougher to find stuff than when I first got my K5 15 years ago. Between the scrap prices of ‘08, and cash for clunkers, a big percentage of the older stuff got crushed.

I run an Eaton HO72 rear axle and I’m wanting to build a front. I already have another complete axle and another 5.14 third like I run in the rear, but you can never have to many Eaton parts. I’d like to find another Detroit No Spin and a van width rear if possible. Both of those will be tough to find.

I’m also looking for a Borg Warner 4401/1370 transfer case with a fixed output. My brother has a slip yoke version I can get, but I’m wanting to switch to a cv rear shaft because of u joint bind. I’d also like to find a PTO to bolt on it. I already have PTO provisions on my NV4500, but I’d like to run a PTO winch off the t case so I’ll have different pull speeds and a power out in reverse.

I’m also looking for rear seatbelt ends that will match my 78 rear seat belts. I pulled some out of a later model K5 and installed them thinking they were the same. Nope, the buckles pop off of them.

Thanks for any help.

There used to be a place outside Mocksville... 21 motors?... that specialized just in trucks. I haven't been there in over a decade so I have no idea what it's like now but hey used to have tons of them.
Definitely getting harder to find. I think Ron is your best bet.

I had 2 guys that were on here, don't recall names or what happened to them. They were interested in Vintage Big Rigs, & visited my work place in Charlotte. Been 6-8 years back. They worked at a Big Truck Salvage close to Wilmington. Might have been of I-40, but that's all I can remember.
As for Eaton parts, there's a couple or more drivetrain rebuilders in Charlotte, that may have some used parts. Doubtful on the transfer case. But, "Mecklenburg Equipment" [Charlotte] used to deal with old military & powerline equipment.

Ill have the 4401 but Im a long way's away.
Yes, that would be a ride. If I have trouble finding one, I might still talk to you about it.

Does anyone know the rhyme or reason to slip vs fixed yoke on these? I know the 4401 only came in one ton’s, but I don’t know why some applications are slip, and some are fixed. It would be nice to know what trucks to look at for the fixed output.

The internet...not much you can't find any more, and probably cheaper than sourcing from the bruncledaddy that saw 'this part' on a Barrett Jackson car last weekend.
