is been 25 years since I've been (I was 10), me and my brother have a beach house rented for a week in Sept. I know at one time there were some Jeep trails in the area, is it worth hauling my Crawler down for? I'm coming from Huntington WV, so it will be a 10 hour drive or so (longer with a trailer).
My jeep is a 2.5 TJ, will have 38 inch TSL's by Sept.

I don't know of any Jeep trails at the beach. I guess some of the ORV beach front is still open.

I'm pretty sure you'll have to head south over to Hatteras Island for any beach driving... OR, North up above Corolla... South will take much less time though.
Me and the family go to OBX every summer for two weeks. We go down south to Waves, NC which is part of Hatteras Island. Beach driving down there has gotten pretty spotty. There will be access in one section then you will have to exit back off, go down to the next access, then back on. Up on the north end above Corolla, once you run out of asphalt, you can drive all the way to the fence at the NC / Virginia border. Not sure how many miles it is, but it's a good ways. There are some crazy big houses up there. You'll probably see the wild horses too which is always awesome. With traffic and all, it will take about an hour to get to the end of the pavement from Nags Head. Once you turn off the 4 lane and start heading toward Duck and Corolla, the speed limit is lower and traffic backs up somewhat. It's worth the trip though.
