I need to install the window into the channel that holds it to the regulator on my Toyota door. It has some felt or something in the groove and it must be pressed onto the glass, It's a tight fit and the glass is curved and I'm afraid I might break it if I push or hammer on it too hard. Any tips?

The channel at the bottom of the window glass? It's not held in with felt typically, but either an epoxy or something like Window Weld sealant in a tube. I've used butyl rubber tape, too. Clean the crap out of the bottom of the glass and the channel, apply sealant/adhesive like Window Weld, make sure everything is lined up properly, then install the channel. If you use an adhesive from a tube, it shouldn't take much pressure to get it in place. If you don't use a good adhesive, it will just pull out the next time you roll the window down.

The channel is like a clamp, tighter at the opening than the glass edge and I see no epoxy on it or the old glass that popped out , I'm guessing I need to put soap or something on the glass and hammer the channel onto the bottom of the glass slowly w a mallet? the edge is straight but the widow is curved vertically so if I push/hammer to hard it might snap?

Thanks for the help, you were correct. What I thought (looked like) was felt is old, hard, dryrotted rubber and has no flex anymore. I need to get a replacement rubber and adhesive it in the channel and then I think it will go on w some soapy water. I installed an old scratched window in the meantime.

rubber came out OK yes lots of rust in the channel, It may be salvageable. I have a nice window to install, but the channel is not on it yet............
