im buying an 85 4 runner. being a ford guy all my life i know nothing about these things. im looking to keep it leaf sprung front and rear. i want great flex. what and where should i buy ? i'd like to run 38/12.50/15 tires. it will be a street driven wheeling rig. thanks nc4x4

63" chevys in the rear, the rears up front and cut the fenders. You'll also need an IFS rear axle and some 1.5" spacers for the front, high steer and gusset that front axle. Longfields too for the front axle. You will probably want to go to rear disks to since those are some heavy tires and upgrade the fronts to vented rotors. Oh and you'll need to re gear cause otherwise it won't move.;) Hit up Trail Gear dot com to see what all you'll need. Don't necessarily have to buy from there, but it's all on one site to get an idea.

Toyota

Everyone have there opinon on this----------
Buy some good Springs for up Front ( Marlin are Trail Gear)
The Rears up front Drive like ( Well You know) on the road If you dont use some Good Shocks
and the 63s will work in the rear ( But not a big Fan of those)

What's this mean? I've got an 85 pickup and that's the first I've heard about that, albeit I'm a yota n00b.

Its 3" wider and bigger brakes and axle tubes(3") so with bigger/wider tires you got more room between the tire and the frame upon suspension compression. It uses the same 3rd but axle shafts are longer naturally.

You don't need that axle, although its nice. You can get wheel spacers or a wheel with a shallow backspace. Trailgear has a nice suspension but is pricey. I'm on my blackberry so I'll post up more later.

Thanks guys, that's good to know. I had already planned on running spacers on the rear. If I come across and IFS rear for cheap then I know to pick it up.

im interested in buying a newer model rear axle and ifs front hub conversion if anyone has this stuff available. or what truck should i be looking for to get this stuff out of ? my friend owns a junkyard. thanks again.

for the IFS hub conversion on the SA, you need the IFS hubs (duh), fj40 rotors (I think I went to NAPA and got rotors for an 88 landcruiser), IFS calipers. Here is the tricky part. You have to drill out the "ears" on the knuckle that the stock caliper bolts onto and tap the caliper. You want the caliper to ride on the outside of the ears whereas the stock caliper rode on the inside of the ears. I think you also have to redrill something on the rotors, maybe a dowell pinhole or something. There is a writeup on the toyota faq on pirate.

And here is the whole toyota faq on pirate. If I have a question, I go here first.

yeah in my opinion go with all pro springs they are great and dont sag after time,I know alot of people hate on trail gear but most of my suspension is trail gear,I have 5" up front and 4" rear, you want 1" higher in the front,I would get the HD springs also if you go with trail gear.My fronts have saged alot now,I use to sit inches higher in the front now I sit inches lower.

All pros are more expensive but are what I will have next they are awesome.

Do NOT go with rears up front if this is going to be a street driven truck even with good shocks there just too soft and if your wanting to run 38's they might not give you enough lift anyway.
