What are the advantages of running a divorced t-case? I don't understand the principle?

It also allows you to tuck the transfer case up into the body of the vehicle. therefore allowing more clearance. also makes everything on the underside much more accessable for repair/service... thats all i know!

You can use a 2wd tranny and add the Tcase without an adapter. You will need a small driveshaft or jackshaft. Works better in longer wheelbase vehicles. Samurai's do come from the factory with them stock.

a lot of manufacturers did this with trucks to make it cheaper to produce the vehicle because the 4x4 trucks used the same transmission as the 2wd trucks.

It does work well with long wheelbase vehicles to shorten rear driveshaft length. Sometimes it can eliminate a hanger bearing and keeps the rear driveshaft 1 piece versus 2 piece
