Where can I go in raleigh to take scrap metal to get some cash for it?

Go east on HWY 64 (towards Knightdale). At the Uhaul place turn right. Go to the end of the road and the scrap place is on the left. Sorry, don't know the name but used to go there a few years ago when I lived there.

ok thanks, is the uhaul place before or after you get to northern tool? Or about how far down 64 is it if you don't know where northern is.

I took a scrap truck to TT&E 2 weeks ago and got $.04 per pound which added up to $125

I got .06 for a completely stripped truck cab and frame at TT&E about a month ago. I take glass and all out though. They grade it as you come in, if they see glass and such they degrade it a tad. I'm pretty sure .06 is the going rate for pure metal right now.

Always seperate the brass and copper if you got time! Going rate on Copper is like watching price of gold. Different every day! A couple bucks extra for a wiring harness but you got to burn it first. Even more if you hand strip it. Radiators are like $25 each.

i just went to TT&E and got the .04 rate didnt take the windows or anything out. Ended up being bout $120 total for the burb body and frame

how do scrap metal rates work? does each yard have it's own price/value? I'm going to be taking my '78 Waggy (stripped body & frame only...no glass, drivetrain, or axles). I figured to expect somewhere around $30-$50??

find a small fab shop, they might have some tails or remnants they would sell ya, but don't expect it to be a gimme.

I know apex steel can cut you whatever you want, there right off tryon, they have a $50 minimum purchase though.

i know some yards sell some of its scrap back to customers who ask, at a higher rate than they pay you for it of course.

Yes, each yard sets its own prices, and they can change frequently. If you call ahead - they'll tell you what the current price is.

I scrapped two Waggy's in the condition you describe, but they still had glass and full interior. I think each weighed around 2700 - I am estimating because each ended up weighing 2900 at the yard with some extra scrap metal I had thrown inside.
