um... wow... sounds kinda fun, hate to see what the salt water will do to it

Hope those floats are full of petrol...

Sooo what do you use as a winch point in the middle of the ocean?

Boat, boey anything that will keep it afloat. What is the point of dual winches in the front as well?

i take it that is a solar panel on the hood, I wonder what all it powers

Hes going by across the ocean by way of the Bearing Straight, meaning at most he will be in the ocean for 50 or so miles

Looks like the solar panel works to charge and power a laptop, a small refrigerator, GPS systems, and to keep the batteries on trickle charge when hes not using them. He is using those Staun internal beadlocks on it.

Its cool and all, but they have that bad@ss rig and all this money to do that? I just dont see the point, buy an amphibeous vehicle if thats the case.

If anyone would have bothered to read through the website he posted....

Its not just a single guy out on some crazy mission. Its basically a publicity stunt for low emission vehicles.

The goals of this expedition are to promote CO2-neutral project balance, the worldwide use of renewable energies and energy efficiency. The team will drive around the world using only one mean of transportation.

There are TONS of Supporters for this...a bunch of private companies, and a list of countries (mostly European/Asian)

WTF this is the intarweb, we look at pictures and make up our own stories !!! and if we don't like the truth we just post it the way we like it enough times until google picks it up as real news !!!

of drivers will start in Paris on October 1, 2008, and is estimated to reach New York by the middle of May 2009. They will venture east through Russia up to the outermost edge of Eurasia and thus try to be the first team to ever reach the Bering Strait with wheel-driven vehicles of their own accord. Then, in February 2009, it is planned to cross the Bering Strait by driving over the ice. Considering that the strait has not been completely frozen for years, a swimming system will be in use for security. In the case that the vehicles break through ice or in case of open expanses of water, the swimming system will bring them to the next accessible sheet of ice. Upon arriving the American continent, the third challenge will be waiting for the team. The participants of the expedition have set themselves the goal - which has never been achieved before - to drive from Wales to Fairbanks and reach it of their own accord with wheel-driven vehicles. Continuing its jouney from Fairbanks, the team will cross Canada, drive through the USA from west to east and finally reach New York.

Really? Just going to "drive back up onto the next ice sheet". Good luck with that...

All that money and still using some ~33" mtrs and a jeep? Hope gy is paying well.

yeah their doomed.. 33's? thought it said 40's But they look small.

They're gonna drive all that way.... only to get stuck in NYC traffic.

i'm not seeing those pontoons being real city-friendly.
