The article is actually about us accidentally sending microbes to mars (or elsewhere in space). Things do not get sterilized propery as they leave earth can transfer these microbes to space.
NASA's concern is that now, as they engage in the search for extraterrestrial life they will be collecting these mircrobes from previous ventures and mistaking them for new life forms. They also worry about "back contamination". These microbes climbing back aboard the space craft and hitching a ride back to earth.
the fact that they are concerned with that concerns me.
They say that it could be dangerous for earth....? is there something on mars that will turn them into super germs?
and, not that this concerns me, just interesting as hell....
millions of years from now, these microbes could develop into life forms, possibly intellegent. and one day send probes back to earth in search of life.
