Sell it all or drag it along?

It is very possible the wife and I will be moving soon, it will definitely be an out of town, and possibly out of state move. I have some big machine tools (mill, lathe), stuff that is replaceable, but it is all old american metal, so I can't just walk into a shop and order up a new one when I get where I am going.

Would you move it all, or sell it all before a big move?

Sell it all to me for a very good price

Nah, pretty sure the last big piece of machinery I sold @jeepinmatt he ended up selling it, still bolted to the same pallet I delivered it to him on.

I am torn, I hate to sell old iron, and I hate to move stuff........

So for me it would depend on how far away you were moving, how much stuff there is, and how much of a time crunch you are under. Driving a trailer full of equipment a couple times a hundred miles is no biggie. But if you are moving 5hrs away and have to do it 4 times...

Also, the loading and unloading is a hassle too. Even with a forklift, there's always something fighting you. I'm sure you know this because stuff didn't just magically show up at your shop, but its a reminder, haha.

And if you have like 1 or 2 days to move everything out, and can't premove stuff in to the new place, then you may have to put it in storage, which means you have to load and unload everything. Twice.

This is a statement of fact! Though I did use it a good bit in the couple years I had it :D

Move it or have it moved. Selling it might take forever and is an aggravation. Plus, you know how it's been taken care of and you're familiar with it.

Does the new place have a shop? Then keep it. Moving is going to suck either way, might as well have your stuff.

That is the rub, where we move will depend on where I find a job, doubtful we will be buying right away, probably renting a place, and the plan is fore it to be a house (hopefully with a garage). Odds are good we won't be in something we own for a year. I was thinking I could buy a box truck load it up and park it in RV storage if I opt to keep it all.

What all ya got? Between @braxton357 and I, we could probably make room to "store" some of it for a good price if it's useful. I don't have a mill right now, so there's an empty hole in my heart.

The heaviest pieces would be a bridgeport mill and a heavy 10 south bend lathe. The 80 gallon compressor and the 2 ton famco arbor press are probably equally difficult when it comes time to move, load, unload, etc.

If you end up down this way and go the box truck route you mentioned, holler at me. I can probably get you a spot to park it at the parents house or the farm.
I was about to offer the same.
Ii got plenty of land to park a box truck on.
A case of been should cover a years worth of parking fees.
