Take it from someone who almost ended up dead in the hood of Greenwood SC over a minivan. Lucky for me a cop pulled up and asked to make sure I had a gun on my person being in that part of town.
 
Charlotte pd just had an article in the news that incouraged people to meet in their parking lot to do Craigslist deals.

Short version for now.
Our senior malamute could no longer get in any of our vehicles, so we needed a cheap minivan. Located one via CL in Greenwood SC. Arrived in my Super Duty and 20 ft trailer with $3200 cash and my Glock .40 15 +1. The "seller's" address was literally on the wrong side of the tracks in a public housing complex. My situation awareness told me something wasn't right with the situation so I parked next to a LEO who was observing a close by school bus stop (drug dealing hot spot). Called seller who "lived" 100 yard away and asked him to meet me where I was parked (beside LEO). He refused and said to come by his house as he was watching his nephew and couldn't leave. I told LEO what was happening and 1st thing he asked was if I was carrying. I said yes and with a CCW permit. He replied "Good, people get killed in this neighborhood over $50 and you have $3200?" I told Lisa this is a scam and we left. As we drove by the seller's "house" which was 1 way in, 1 way out, I could see about 10 other "neighbors" awaiting our arrival. If we had pulled down that street we would have been blocked in and God only knows what was going to happen. LEO told us that wasd a common scheme in that neighborhood.
For the first time in my life, I rolled coal the hell outta Greenwood SC.
 
Crazy, good thing that cop was there and warned you. Thankfully I've yet to deal with any shady people on Craigslist. Still scares me so I always have my .40 but I only have 6+1
