Selling engine whole or part out?

So, I got an almost complete AMC 150 2.5L for a replacement for the one I yanked out of my Jeep. I then decided to rebuild the old one and want to get rid of the replacement. I'm trying to figure out if I would be better off selling it whole or trying to part it out. I've never run it, and am going by the statement by the PO that it was running about a year ago when it was pulled.

Any opinions on which would bring more? Think I should verify its condition first?

Better off to sell it whole only time I would see parting out a engine is if it was performance parts and you could move them faster then the engine whole.

For sure you would get the best price by verifying the condition. That said, these engines aren't worth much.
