Septic leach field costs

We are looking at buying a house, and for various reasons, it will need a new leach field for the septic system (at some point).

We have confirmed there is a second site on property that percs, it currently has quite a few trees growing on it. We are wondering ,(Broad strokes) what the cost would be given the tree removal and required additional site prep? The forest is clear of any houses or structures and is accessible so nothing would need to be dropped with surgical precision.

We have had a company out that estimated $7-$10k for a new leach field, but that was under the assumption the open section of property would perc (and it doesn't).

Distance from house to new septic field will make a big difference as well. Sounds like you'll be needing a pump system so that adds to the cost quickly, especially if your previous system was gravity. Is the current tank still usable?

The house currently has what I believe is a chamber system, but it is on the other side of the house and already uses a pump. I believe we would probably go back to a chamber system using the same pump, as the backup site is not ideal for gravity feed.

chamber systems are a little more $ but tend to do fairly well.

In eastern NC a 4 bedroom system, on average, with a traditional trench or even the polystyrene leach field is going to cost ya about $4500 not counting a D box, tank, or heavy clearing of the land or dealing with rocks.

Depends a lot on how stupid your county is. I had to buy and haul in 8" of fill to go over my field. Dirt that looked, felt, performed, and tasted exactly like the dirt that was already there. Also required to do the styrofoam peanut lines. Total for a pump system, all in, 600' distance to the field, was around 12g.

We just installed 360’ of infiltrator on a flat cleared lot, cost the homeowner $6000….still waiting on an infiltrator tank to install. Ganna raise his cost to around $8500

Dbox isn’t usually necessary with chambers unless the county wants it equal fed. Most systems we install are serial fed and the end caps act as dboxs
