So my serpentine belt was starting to get cracks in it so I had a shop replace it. It had no sequel, just cracks. Now with the new belt it squeals right at start up, only for a short second but still. Why is this? What can I do?

Sounds like they didn't tighten it enough. I had to make the one on our TJ pretty tight to keep the alternator pulley from slipping on startup.

Also check for glazing on the idler pulleys. I had the same issue with my xj and lil bit of green scotch brite took care of it

I also have a can of CRP's belt dressing. Just a little shot of that stuff makes a huge difference on the grippy-ness of a belt. I also think it keeps them softer longer.

Mine usually squeak a little until they've worn in some.
