Well a few of you may have met my Service dog Dorothy at the Veterans ride.

I found that there was some interest in finding out more about the program I went through to get her. It is an amazing thing and life changing.

http://www.paws4soldiers.com/index.htmlThis is the Local Company I went through. Most people do not know the hardship and cost affiliated with acquiring a service dog. Or the fact that a lot of programs can take the dogs from you at any time. You actually never own them.
The trainer I went through is amazing and does some amazing work. Costs are minimal and she works with you constantly and diligently on getting you the right match for your need as well as compatibility on the dog.

I linked her company site for the soliders. If you wish to see her other part of her company. I am linking it here also.http://www.ek-9s.com/If you have questions please feel free to ask and share this!
I thought it would be impossible to do and she made it a reality and my life is for the better for it!

Good luck and
OORAH!

I got the privilege of meeting Dorothy at the veterans ride on Saturday. She was just the greatest dog and it was a treat to meet her. :)

I always have loved dogs, an this is a great program. Just 1 question, what is the reason people are not supposed to pet the service dogs? I know there is a reason, but just wanted to know from someone that would know. Thanks

Well it distracts them from being focused. She loves attention and if we go in public and everyone is petting her. She will try to get everyone to do that all the time and would no longer be useful but actually be a burden.
As well as liability factor. Kids might her hurt or someone might scare her and get bit.
When her vest goes on she knows no one can pet or touch her but me. If i allowed her to get touched with it on. She would drag me from person to person to get attention.
:) Hope that answers it?

Pleasure meeting you both this last weekend, it is amazing that she can tell what is going on with you, She is more disciplined than a lot of people I know.

Another thing, speaking of her being so disciplined, are certain breeds good for certain things. Both of our Jack russells our smart as tree stumps.

Any dog with a drive can be that way.
Most breeds are okay but Working dog breeds are the best imo.
Belgian, German, dutch, Doberman, Boxer etc...
