Im getting really confused on this one. I have a 1990 xj with a 4.5 inch lift and 31x10.50's. Everytime i go to step on the brakes my whole jeep shakes and rattles real bad and im not sure whats causing it. I never had this problem before i had the lift put on. I borrowed a set of 33x12.50's for a week to see if it still happened but everything went smooth as could be. And of course as soon as the 31's went back on it started again. :wtf: I could really use any advice u guys have. Thx.

So you swapped tires and the shaking went away? There's your problem. Start by having them balanced.

Not necessarily. Head shake/death wobble can be stopped by changing the mass or geometry of the components in the suspension system. Swap tires and DW goes away, just means that "something" has changed. You can try getting the tires balanced, but you're better off checking the front suspension thoroughly for any loose components. It just takes a slightly loose wheel bearing.

What was the air pressure in the 33's as compared to the 31's, I have often ran low pressure to fight off the death wobble till I get home. Think of aired down tires as a shock dampener lol.

Check over all the bolts as Shawn said, it could be anything, hell I had it for a while, found out I cracked my unibody at the steering box and that was the cause.

check for loose or worn components or the alignment B/C going from 31x10.5 to 33x12.5 puts more of a foot print on the road & will mask the shake/death wobble
just my 2 cents

death wobble

man its the tires had the same problem in my tj do they uneven wear? best thing to do is trade them in and get new tires have them balanced get a alingment and tighten any loose bolts and it will ride like a town car good luck
