Shift Kit woes

So fellas, I went to put the shift kit in the C6 in my Bronco. I bought the B&M Shift Improver kit. First let me say, I'm not a transmission guy and was completely lost and intimidated by this. Secondly, let me say the B&M instructions are garbage and even more confusing. Anyway, I drop the pan, and I realize I really need to install a drain plug. Next I pull the filter...done it before, so I'm a pro. Next I pull the valve body...still pretty easy.

Next I pull the valve body apart. Again, really easy, just be careful and slow in order not to lose any springs or check balls. Anyway, I drill the two holes as directed by B&M in the seperator plate. Then I put in all necessary hardware and reinstall any and all springs and check balls. The instructions were confusing as hell, but except for a couple pieces of hardware, it went back together the same way it came apart.

So now this is where I start having issues. I put the valve body back up, and apparently missed the 'gear selector pin' thing on the valve body. I didn't realize this until I went to put the Bronco in reverse, and all I had was drive. So I drop the pan again, I get that situated and button everything back up. Now at this time, some how my kick down gets lodged and won't allow me to give any throttle. It's literally like I have a rock under my gas pedal. And some how, I have something blocking my dip stick from going all the way in (no interference when I put the pan on). So I disconnect the kick down and say screw the dip stick...woo-hoo, works great...for a while.

BUT...

Now, some times it'll start in first and other times it'll start in second. Shifts are all great though. And I can manually upshift and down shift with no problems.

So my questions are:

-What did I do wrong that my transmission won't always start in first gear?
-And what in the hell could be hanging up the kickdown (or does it now need to be adjusted) and the dip stick?

I'm not entirely sure what the kick down could or would be stuck on. I believe everything was put back in the valve body correctly.

Yes, the dip stick does come out. But when I put it back in the last inch binds up. And there's not a frickin thing on that side to cause any blockage. It's an easy 1.5" from the valve body.

Alright...thanks man...so I just didn't line $hit back up right. Great.

Anyway...can you tell me the actual name of the .5" diameter pin on the side of the valve body? And the actual name for the lever looking things that are supposed to line up on it?

are you refering to the thing you didn't line up the first time(.5 pin)? if so the thing you didn't line up is called the manual valve.
the other thing is called the kickdown lever and the kickdown valve.

the best way to do it is to start one or 2 bolts on the pass side(loose) and you can see the manual valve. the kickdown needs to be facing with the end facing down, as you push up on the valve body, wiggle the kickdown arm with your other hand and you will feel it when it drops into place. then snug up the bolts you started. to check the kickdown, move the arm on the outside and see if you feel spring tension on it(you should) and make sure your manual valve is lined up before you go any farther.

Again...thanks a ton...now I don't have to sound like such an idiot explaining it. And your procedure should make lining the stuff up a ton easier. I was attempting it blind before.
