OK I admit, I am a total rookie when it comes to wheeling an auto.
I am going to be running a turbo 350, and I have a place in my new jeep to mount a shifter. So what I want is a shifter that is EASY to shift, I do not want one of those with the combination type triggers and so on, I want easy to go from drive to reverse and so on.
So, for those, with the know, help me out, what type shifter am I looking for?

by gate they mean you have to move it this way or that way to shift the gears right?
Not what I want, I want something more like you have in a car, clicks up and down but straight movement

art carr, we run them in both our automatic and manual valve bodies.... check out our website or call rocky and see what kind of deal he's got going on?

I don't know what he's been doing but he's been selling them like hotcakes lately....

We have a race car with a lever type shifter and I don't like it just as you don't, maybe I'm just not used to it but I always end up forgetting what gear I'm in when I need to know!

chip def the art carr, and the console was built for it, thats what i had built in that console, bolt in and super simple to use! only take you a minute to get use to it, as far as the left to right gates, but not buttons levers to get in the way.

also on the artt carr you can grind out the gates and have it very easy to shift much like an oem shifter. may also want to check out winters shifters. I think they have one that looks just like the art carr it may be cheaper?

Chip I used a modified Camaro floor shifter on my 700r4. If you get an older model when they had the Th350 it will be for a 3 speed. I just filed the gates to my liking. I slightly ramped the original notched gate so i could go from D to R pushing the button 1/2 way and a slight nudge on the shifter. I could rock R and D as needed. I also tweaked the other detents for 1,2 etc so I could up shift easily with just a tap on the shifter. I paid $0 for the shifter and cable at friends junk yard.

Not quite as robust and fool proof as a nice aftermarket unit but it served my needs. Down side is your stuck with a factory looking shifter and I never made a cover for it. Plus the cool kids may not talk to you any more :D
