There is/was a shooting range at uwharrie in the Natl forest near the trails. Last I heard (last season) it was closed though.

Last time I checked the shooting range was still closed. There may how ever be someone with private property that has a shooting range. It is something to look into.

NO!!!! Think about how far a bullet has the potential to travel. You never know who else is out in the woods with you. You should only shoot where you have a good backstop that will stop the caliber that you are shooting.

the range is closed because of irresponsible shooting. Someone fired a shot into the air, and it came down and hit an ATV rider in the Leg.
URE is too crowded to just go shooting in any direction.

In all honestly I doubt it was someone shooting into the air. the real problem with the URE shooting range is that you are shooting uphill. (At least on the handgun side). I was shooting approx 25 yards away at a box on the ground with a target tacked to it. I personally saw NUMEROUS of my shots ricochet off the ground and then hit the TOP of the berm. I have NO doubt that some of them went over top of it and into the woods behind. If the range went downhill away from the shooter this would be much less likely to happen.
