A friend of mine blinded his wolf by welding on his Jeep during his build. Evidently the wolf liked to watch him weld...
Post up your safety tips for pets in the shop too

The cat got locked in the garage for about a day and a half w no food/water so he wont go near it now.Problem solved. The dogs too lazy to leave her spot in front of the couch unless theirs food involved or she has to go out.

I keep my little garage pretty clean. But my dog goes inside if I'm welding or grinding otherwise he lays in the yard while I work

After the dog tore her ACL running and sliding across the shop floor, she gets to stay in the driveway or the on the porch.

Nevermind the heats/sharps/etc that would otherwise mess a pup up.

I have a doggie door in the back of my shop with a gate on it. When I am doing things that they don't need to be in the shop, I lock them out. The doggie door opens under a workbench that is enclosed except for the gate. My dogs sleep in the shop every night. Cheap security and it is heated.

Our dog is a big pussy when it comes to loud noises. Anything dropped in the house, he runs.
Lots of loud things happen in the garage so he just stays away from it.

I have an office space in my shop, and the dogs are limited to it by a board, they could easily go over the board, but know they aren't allowed. When welding is going on, the door is closed. There are just too many hazardous chemicals, metal shavings/wood splinters around to let them in the main shop area. Hell, the shop area isn't safe for humans, let alone the pooches!

The covered outside of the doggie door and the enclosed workbench area where they sleep/get locked out when I'm welding.

Edit: For the other thread, both of these are shelter/rescue dogs. I only wanted 1 dog, but they are brother and sister. There is no way I could separate them, so I got them both.

yo shop too clean mang.
great idea on the doggie door/workbench dealo.

I try to keep it clean. I hate having to hunt for stuff or spend time cleaning before I can start a project. The workbench has a small divider in it. The back half is full of cedar shavings for them to sleep in.

If I'm doing anything other than shooting the shit in the shop my dog is in the house. My dog will attack any kind of electric or air tools if I am using them. Pretty sure he thinks he's saving my life because as soon as I let go he stops. If someone else is using power tools he could care less.

Watch open drain pans too, regardless of contents. I've seen a dog go to try to drink motor oil out of a pan before, but stopped him short (not my dog, customers, and dog was oooolllddd and probably nearly blind and smelless)

My dog Semi(now resting in doggie heaven) used to like to pal around with me, no matter what I was doing. My current dog Chelsea and Sweetie does that too, but I learned a lesson I'll never forget. Semi got some shavings in her foot, just one paw, but that was enough. I had to pick them out. Tweezers, magnet(to locate) it was not pretty. bandaging and keeping it clean was a chore. took about three weeks for her to heal. I felt so bad for allowing it to happen. So after that, she wasn't allowed in, and neither are my current pooches.
