Im looking to buy 4-wheeler for my sons birthday, he will be turning 4 in august. i was wanting to get some thoughts on what to expect from the different brands, types, and sizes. my plan was to buy one of the 50cc or so 'no name' quads like you would find at a local flee market. he will likely be riding up some long, kindof steep hills and over semi-rough terrain. i just dont know if the cheaper 4-wheelers can hold up to this type of riding. any input on these things would be appreciated.

I work with a guy that works on these on the side he said parts are cheep and easy to find but they don't hold up to rough riding and are good for the yard and that's about it. I got a kfx 80 and a trx70 for my two kids my son is 5 and daughter is 3 and they both do fine on them I took my son to ure for the first time a few weeks ago.

thats a good looking 4-wheeler. it looks alot more durable than a 50cc 2 stroke that i went and looked at last week. does it have the centrifucal
clutch type output or do any of these things actually have gears, with reverse? i am hoping to find a good used one for under 500 bucks or so that will last him at least a couple years. the little electric 4-wheeler we got him last year only lasted 8months and on its second set of plastic drive gears at that. i appreciate the input

by the way, whats with the strap from the handle bars to the front bumper?

Its a nice one just got lucky on it and got a deal from a coworker its a 04 Kawasaki 80 same as the Suzuki 80s. It's a automatic with no reverse. He put the strap on there he pulls stuff around the yard with it.

The LT80/KFX80 are very strong bikes. Suzuki started making the LT80 in 1989 (I think) and it remained mostly unchanged until 2006 when they stopped making it.

In stock form, it will go much faster then it needs to for most kids, but that can be governed by a throttle screw. They also take well to mods when they do get bored with the speed, so it won't need to be replaced until they get into their teens. There are usually several of them posted on craigslist at any given time.
