Has anyone ever dealt with getting a vehicle with a short VIN inspected? Any inspection guys here want to chime in? I have a 1993 "AM general truck" with a seven digit VIN. It's already 4 months late to be inspected, passed inspection today but they couldn't get the computer to accept the vin. I assumed when I got home the title would have some added 0's or something but it doesn't.
So, whats the deal? How do I get around this?

nothing to add but Ive got a 7 digit VIN (it must be a military thing) and Ive got no issues yet

yet...

Got y'all beat....5 digits (that's all they used on the title, w/o the "NCS").

Never had to have inspected, but no problems registering, plates, etc.

I've had that problem on a couple of vehicles, an military surplus trailer (4 digit) and a dodge truck (15 digit). Both required DMV inspection and a new VIN was issued to clear up title issues. They just added "0's" in front to get to 17, put in the paperwork.

Sounds like I'm fucked then as the DMV inspector already told me he would never title a hmmwv. So I went around him to get it titled.

:Edit: almost two years ago that is .

Maybe take a copy of the inspection to the tag office to prove it passed inspection. I have had to do this a couple times, and it worked up here in boone.
