Roy Williams pays back Dez Bryant

At some point, Dallas Cowboys rookie wide receiver Dez Bryant was going to get his comeuppance. Teammate Roy Williams all but guaranteed that during training camp.

Bryant made national news in training camp when he refused to carry Williams' pads after practice -- bucking the trend of veteran NFL players hazing rookies. Bryant later said he didn't know about such tradition.

"I'm not doing it," Bryant said then. "I feel like I was drafted to play football, not carry another player's pads."

Williams excused it, saying then that Bryant, who received $8.3 million in guaranteed money from his rookie contract, would just have to take the team out to dinner and get him some new shoes.

Well, that dinner happened Monday night. The final tab: $54,896.

Bryant took the offensive players out to Pappas Bros. Steakhouse. Williams, however, made sure Bryant got the message, inviting defensive players as well.

And guess who was left holding the bill afterward.

"They got the young fella," said Bryant's adviser, David Wells. "What could he say? He had to pay it unless he wanted to wash dishes for a month."

Players ordered basically everything on the menu and even took home bottles of wine.

After checking out the 90-page wine book, it's anybody's guess if anybody took home a bottle of Chateau Latour for $9,000. It's also possible a few players ordered a bottle of PlumpJack Reserve for $600.

No word from Bryant or Williams about the evening ... yet.

I guess the $55,000 includes 15% tip of around $8,000

ever heard of supply and demand?

Agreed...you can't blame the player. He's just capitalizing on the circumstances. The fact that the fans are willing to pay what they are for ticket prices, concessions, gear (jerseys, etc.) and purchase tv packages to watch the teams is what's funding those salaries. I agree though, the salaries are ridiculous, but you can't blame the player.

I was contacted back in the early spring about vending at a local field and also sent a list of the do's and don'ts. I was shocked at what I was told how to jack up my prices on the same things i'm selling now. I said thanks but not interested. I don't think I could do it one night, robbing families of their money(especially in these times). No it's not right the way sports is done now.

shit, you wouldnt be robbing anyone. a hot dog and a drink at a sporting event is not a "need", its a convenience. they could have ate at home or brought sandwiches instead of buying a hotdog at the game. if they cant afford $4/ hot dog and $2 for a drink, they dont have to buy them. hell, they shouldnt even be at a game if they cant afford the prices there.

At what point is profit like "twisting the knife". Im self employed with two kids and I fully understand profit margines and needing to make a profit, but a night at the tax payer financed AA baseball field should not cost $75-100. I was just trying to support the community/team by attending a game, but it seems a bit pricey for frequent family outings. I know my option is shared buy many people in my circle of friends.

Hey man...I agree with you. I read in a mag somewhere not too long ago, that it costs the average family of 4 roughly $400 to go to an NFL game. Hell...even for nose bleed seats, you're looking at what, $35 per ticket...so $140 there and $10-25 to park. So even if you do eat before hand and don't by anything at the stadium, you're still talking and easy $150. To me that's nuts. But as I said earlier, the fans are the only ones that can do anything about it, they have to put their foot down and say it's unacceptable...and I don't see that happening anytime soon. People of this country have become all too willing to eat $hit and like it.

Asshats. At the end of the game when " I be thankn jeebus, an momma and my dealer for all dem sillz..." I will take my decent pay for a decent weeks work and be happy. No respect for 2/3 of any people that play pro sports now.

I think pro sports should not make that much .I think they should only make 50-60 grand a year .

Then stop watching any games or doing anything to promote them.
As mentioned, it's supply and demand.

I think they should pay the winning team at the super bowl! I bet the games would be a lot better.
They do get a bonus. Plus a cool ring.

Professional athletes’ high salaries help them avoid bribes:

Based on that logic, all politicians should make $millions too.

They do. It just isn't reported. By either the news or to the IRS.;)
