When I bought my jeep the guy I bought it from said it had been sitting for about 5 or 6 years. So I did the standard thing before starting it, I replaced all fluids and primed the oil pump. I then fired it up it ran pretty good but wanted to spit back a lot. After checking/setting the timing I made the determination the Carb needed rebuilding.
Well when I removed hte carb I got a surprise, dirt dobbers had totally closed off one side of the intake the pic was after I had broke it open.

Tread lightly! Use a decent shopvac to remove the remnants or it'll end up getting sucked under a valve/into a cylinder (or 3:rolleyes:) & getting "processed" (ground up/down the cylinder walls)...

The good news is maybe you carb doesn't need a rebuild?

I had my shop vac in the open port while I scrap it out so hopefully I got most of it so it won't get ground up against the cylinder wall.

The rebuild kit was 15 bucks so I went a head and rebuilt it while I had it torn down better safe then sorry. It is still just the old crappy Carter carb so I am not expecting marricles but it should run a heck of a lot better.
