D30 outer pinion bearing. R&p was good considering a carrier bearing was out as well, but it was not quite as bad, just misshapen rollers.. I'm assuming the failure mode was matter embedded at first and proceeded to wear. Or low oil. It runs smooth and quiet now with a flush and new sets all around. It surprised me how bad they were for how (relatively) little noise it made.

I'll see if I can dig up some of the other stuff I've run across over the years.. abs feeling brakes without abs.. decimated input shaft on international 4700.. (I'm pissed off that my advance store had a new guy transfer in and threw out all the failure mode display parts.. this is what can happen if you let it go too long.. it was a public service in my opinion.)

I wish iphones were around when I worked on racecars ..... I could have won this thread with parts failure pics.
Ever seen a powdered camshaft?

I think I've just got a broken axle shaft and a Detroit locker....

Oh, and this LQ9 that didn't like 14 lbs of boost. Swelled the rings up and pulled the wrist pin out of the bottom of the piston. Three rods also exited with one going out of the block and taking out the starter.

<my avatar...I was at Windrock and herd something snap. Busted a lower ball joint & u-joint, upper ball joint broke while trying to get it off the trail.

Trail 15 or 18 (can't remember) V-notch:

Removing wheel/tire after upper ball joint let go:

Top of trail...waiting on @tsjeepcj to bring my F250 & trailer:

@off_road2 had to give me lift onto my trailer:

Got a lot of strange looks on the way home:

Snapped the driver side axle, dropped the tire in a hole while on the rev limiter. Shaft exploded and took out the bearings and adjuster nut, scared and cracked the carrier. Amazingly, the stock 3rd member survived.

Just the quick pictures here. I've also got a 14b mini spool I stripped the splines out of on one side. And a twisted 14b axle from the same incident, ure in the rain. The pinion is the stock 3.50 d44 out of my trail rig when it was closer to stock. Daniel Hill climb got it. The lifter and cam and oil pump were from my old 6.0 diesel. It wiped the cam half flat and ground off the lifter wheel but didn't die or seem down on power until the oil pump got a needle bearing sucked up and locked up. No oil pressure means no smoke on a heui 6.0 or 7.3, LOL.

Been there. With the 6.0 cam and lifter, low pressure oil pump and cover.

Too much boost. :driver:
