I have had to remodel our shower.. long story, do you guys have any recommendations on someine who has experience in building a shower pan and curb out of mortar.. installing a pan liner..this is on a slab house..we are needing it tiled...we have the material, just need some labor...we want it done right... overkill is accepted..lol... we had two people come out to give price...glad we didn't go with either...i have done a lot of research and a lot of corners would have been cut...where are the folks that care to do things right and take pride in construction work...rant over.... but if anyone has any recommendations feel free to let me know thanks I'm in the Concord North Carolina area

Wait until you find the right person. Mold and water damage is a bitch. Or buck up and do it yourself you will not be happy with the time line and or maybe the results and price. Something I have learned over the years sometimes you gotta call the man

I know how to do this, but do not offer it in my professional services. Thanks for the nod @Ron

And good luck to the OP as mud baths/showers must be built correctly or water damage is imminent.

Make 200% sure that they do a proper pre-slope under the pan liner, else the liner will never drain properly and will make a swimming pool out of the porous mortar between the liner and the tile.

It's one of those classic "Why would anyone not do that" types of things, but yet people still do it. People that know better do it too, just like cutting corners in whatever other type of job.

I saw this firsthand a few years ago, when my friend had her shower redone. The marble tile failed from lack of drainage. She hired a second guy to re-tile it because she didn't like the quality of the original tile job, or the fact that failed. The second tile job failed. After that, the second guy busted up the pan and discovered that the first guy didn't make a pre-slope. Second guy re-did the pan properly, never had a problem since. My point is: It happens. No clue why a professional tile installer would skip the pre-slope, but he did.

Yep. I know all this by my research. That's why I didn't go with the first two quotes...i have done some of the wall prep myself but have no knowledge of pan construction or tile work..

This is not nearly as difficult as you think. You can get a pro-slope kit to go under the pan. It is a system foam board that is sloped to the center of the drain. You can get it at most plumbing supply places or I believe Kerdi (Schluter) even has a kit for the big box stores. You can lay an even mud base on top of it and I like to paint it with a waterproofing membrane just to be safe. Run that halfway up the walls also. If you don't want to do your own tile work, the tile mason can generally lay the mud after you have installed the sloped pan and liner. Wish I was closer...
