Shudder/Vibration in rear axle when turning 01 Cummins

My daily driver 2001 Dodge 2500 4X4 has developed what feels like a tire rub/shudder when turn, I can only feel it at slow (parking lot) speeds. It does not do it all the time, but 90% of the time. its defiantly not tire rub and its defiantly coming from the rear. I'm suspecting the locker, the truck is stock and came from the factory with a limited slip. Anyone had this symptom before and if so what fixed it. I have not pulled the inspection plate yet. FWIW the truck does not go off road so mud/water is out of the question, it has 170K and I have put on around 70K miles myself. This is the first I have felt it and seems to be getting progressively worse.

I sold a Dakota 2wd that had similar symptoms you're describing. I ran into the new owner shortly after, he said it was the rear diff. Either he just added friction modifier (limited slip additive) or drained/filled the diff with fresh gear oil and friction modifier. I bought the truck with 65kmiles, sold it around 120k, never cracked the diff cover.

My Expedition does what your describing when I am cornering at low speeds and when I lift off the pedal, Kinda like a chattering sound, nothing major just a 2 sec long sound, I have a LS in the rear also, Was once told by the dealer that they have a new clutch pack that will solve it, For like several hundred installed, I asked if would hurt anything they said no its just the discs in the the LS sticking a little. Mine has 110K on it and has started in the last six months, I going to get the fuilds changed and I think it will make a big difference.

Update, the fluid change seems to have helped, but it will still do it some times. I did spray lots of brake clean in the housing and got most of the old fluid out. It wasnt milky like it had water in it but was foamy when I drained it out?

your LSD is locking up, the clutches are getting stuck together. change the gear oil and put a LSD additive in it and drive it in 8's in a parking lot to work the additive in. you may need to do this one or two or three times. and if it still dont fix it you will need to replace the clutches
