Different ...yes....cool....yes.....work well....ummm no. I know of three that have had the diesels puled out and put a V8 in. Diesels are for tow rigs.

I am no expert,

But from what I understand that is the issue.

Got a buddy running a Benz 300 Diesel in his Jeep, He opted for this due to fact the Benz spools at a much lower rpm than the cummins.

Reasons against a diesel engine (as far as "performance" goes):

- potential change in wheel speed: sbc can increase wheel speed ~6x from idle to WOT, for example, diesels are generally 3x-4x
- power delivery: on/off boost, the way the boost comes on can be unhelpful
- smoke: not everyone wants to deal with that on the trail
- power output vs vehicle weight: 6bt is about 1000#

I think they would work well in a straight crawl or pulling arena but me I want the 5.0 from a 95 tang in my xj.

I saw the BDB's at Harlan when they were runnin loins den and noticed one of the guys had went back to gas since I saw him last at the flats.The diesels are cool but dont turn enuf rpm's.
