I plan on my side gig of writing to eventually be a new career.if your not hurting for money, a side gig to me has to be worth at least double what im making at my real job. im not giving up my weekends and nights to make a little above minimum wage. i just dont need the money that bad
Sure, making roughly 90 bucks a month on one book doesn't seem like much... especially considering the amount of effort and hours that went into research, world building, writing, editing, and the learning curve of writing/producing/publishing and not sucking at it.
But I'm smoke checking most newbies who maybe sell a dozen books to their friends and then their book dies. I've got steady income coming from my first book, and the second appears to be doing very well also.
I love the Supply Chain (That's the field I work in as a raw materials buyer/planner). But I love the independence, freedom, creativity, and challenge of being a writer. It ain't easy and it ain't paid for itself yet. But I plan on trying to make a career out of it.
Not that you are wrong on your statement. You really aren't. I make a lot of money at my real job. Enough that it's going to be a major challenge to make that much as a writer. Heck, I probably make more than 90% of writers out there from my day job. So it's a big hurdle to leap. But a fellas gotta dream, right?
