I'm curious where side x sides are legal to ride. I'm think a lot of places view them as ATV's, and allow them on the same trails. It looks like Brushy Mountain allows them from what I can tell by reading their website. I'm guessing you could drive one on all the 'ATV' trails at Brown Mountain too. Uwharrie of course allows them on all of the trails. Where else is everyone in NC riding their side x sides?

There are very few places left to go four wheeling for a day trip from my house. I'm thinking there are a lot of places to take a side x side that are 2.5 hrs or less drive. I don't own a side x side, and won't be buying one any time in the near future but a couple of years down the road is a possibility. I've also never driven one, but they look like a lot of fun.

in a couple years....all info you gather today will be irrelevant. You know how these things go.

dont own one, but back when we used to ride at brown a good bit i always saw them riding up there....like you said, they just went down any ATV trail

Busco Beach allows them, but West Virginia has some of the best ATV/UTV trails around if you can handle a ~3 hour drive.

I have had this same question before, and really about trails such as Hatefield & McCoy & such as well.

at brushy there is only 1-2 trails you can ride them on. 1 trail goes half way, then it deadends for sxs. Biggest issue is they are too wide for alot of atv trails. Im not sure about Brown, but would bet there are limited trails you are supposed to be on there as well.

It seems that many of the "ATV" & Bike spots consider them like a vehicle and many of the vehicle spots consider them an ATV.

I would also like to know what exactly they consider a SxS, since ATVs dont really need to be titled/registered/tagged.

Just me 2 cents i bought a 2012 rzr s le 800 and i love it. Its the most fun you can have with your clothes on. We drive these like baja trucks and they take the punishment really well. As far as where we ride there are several spots locally to ride. In the last few months we have been to Harlan, Carolina adventure world, uwharrie, brown mtn, and several private spots. I think as they become more popular you will see more places open for them.

Yeh, I realize that is very likely. In the past few years, we have lost Tellico and Callalantee. 3-4 years from now there will probably be fewer places to go four wheeling, but more places to take a side x side.

Don't get me wrong, the side by sides are fun, but you might consider buying a couple of good used atvs for the price of a sxs. Not to mention you can go more places with the atvs right now.

That's only because they'll haul less beer than a Jeep.

Such negativity guys! Thinking like that isn't gonna keep the trails open :flipoff2:
