I have a 1975 Jeep CJ5 and I found some new headers from summit for just over $100. I don't have much extra money to spend, but the exhaust system needs replacement, bad. Now, I'm trying to replace the sidepipes. I would prefer that they be the same as the original pipes, the ones with that deep rumble. However, I can't find any sidepipes at all for it. It has the original AMC 304 in it. So, if you know anywhere to find these headers, I would greatly appreciate it if you could send me the link as to where to find these pipes. Thanks!!!

take some advice from experience. Don't buy the headers, don't go with the side pipes either. If you still have the original Exhaust Manifolds, use them. run them into a Y-pipe and run a single exhaust out the back corner.

I too thought side pipes were the shit when I got my CJ5, until the Carbon Monoxide poisoning kept giving my headaches. As for headers, unless you're going to drop a nice chunk of change on good headers, they just aren't worth it.

If you are dead set on headers, I'll trade you straight up my headers for your Manifolds. and if you're still dead set on Side pipes, make sure they exit outside the frame rails.

Honestly, forget the side pipes and cheap headers. they just aren't worth it.

4 reasons not to run headers

1. Headers Suck

2. Headers Suck

3. Headers Suck

4. Headers on CJ's really Suck

5. Headers burn plugs wires

6. Headers are loud as hell

7. Headers Leak and you have to keep re tightening the bolts.

8. Headers suck

I think sidepipes and headers were not factory installed but maybe dealer installed options, so parts will be different form dealer to dealer.
Owning several Jeeps over the years headers are a bit of a PITA!!!
If you must go with headers try to find the re-introduced Cherry Bomb header muffler. Stay away from the Purple Hornies.

Nothing sounds better than an AMC V8 with sidepipes....just on someone elses Jeep

Well, we have always run headers and side pipes and other than the holes that have rusted through, we havent really had any problems and we put tips that through the CO down and out. So unless we run into problems down the road, we wanna keep that set up. It seems to really work nice for the sound we are going for and has a lotta power. And thanks JeepTruck for the cherrybomb suggestion. From what I have heard so far, it seems like it has the deep rumble my dad has really been looking for a while and the price can't be beat. And also, I was unclear about the "orginal" pipes. You were correct, they were put on by the dealers. Those were the ones I was talking about, not the stock. Sorry for the confusion. lol Thanks guys.

if you do but the headers go ahead and cut the flange b/w each tube. It will help the problem of not sealing and blowing gaskets out.

Thanks Chip! Yes I do have a set for sale I updated the ad last night. I have headers, cherrybomb style mufflers w/ turn outs, header bolts, and may have some new gaskets if I can find them. Asking 150 for everything but make me an offer! One question though. Do you wheel this Jeep? FYI I dont think CJ7 headers will work cause they are to long on the side. just frome the ones I've seen.

I have side pipes and headers on my cj5... get good copper gaskets that dont blow out, get coated headers that dont rust. get a good wire loom, and use stage 8 header bolts...

whats wrong with purple hornies??? I have them ,they are good as any other glass pack. I like it loud and I prefer to run strait pipes with tractor flaps at the end. loud and proud
