Just picked up this puppy for my girlfriend and I.. 7 week old Silver lab and retriever mix. He is going to be a TANK! Mom and dad were both between 70-80 pounds. I'm sure he will be out wheelin in no time!

Not that it matters, but the AKC registers "silver" labs as chocolate labs. Silver labs are supposed to be 100% labrador retriever if you get down to brass tacks. No mixes are recognized.

Labs and lab mixes are awsome dogs. The only problem with Labs is they often forget they're a dog!

Im in the market for a silver lab. Where did you get yours at? The closest place i have found one is in taylorsville.

I got him from a lady in Graham.. He was on Craigslist. She had on chocolate lab left. I'll ask my brother if he knows of any breeders. I know he was looking for one as well.

I have a chocolate and a black both think they are human...
But x100000 great dogs.

The white/silver is not recogniz as state above as a proper breed standard, of course none of it matters if it is a mix.....but then technically they aren't "labs" either...

what type of retreiver are they mixed with?

I only have 5 labs:) and another one on the way. Great dogs, err, well companions

It was my understanding that true silvers were pure labs? how are they mix or not a proper standard? just wondering

The following is the official position of the American Kennel Club "AKC" on the registry of silver labradors from Jack Norton, Special Services Department AKC 01/24/00.

"The registry of the American Kennel Club is based on parentage and not the coat of a member of any breed."

In 1987 the AKC, in cooperation with the Labrador Retriever Club of America, conducted an inquiry into the breeding of litters that contained members that were registered as silver. An AKC representative was sent to observe these dogs. The report and color photographs were reviewed by AKC staff and representatives of the Labrador Retriever Club of America. Both parties were satisfied that there was no reason to doubt that the dogs were not purebred Labrador Retrievers, however, they felt that the dogs were incorrectly registered as silver. Since the breed standard at the time described chocolate as ranging from sedge to chocolate, it was felt that the dogs could more accurately be described as a chocolate rather than silver. Written by Robert Young AKC 03/27/00. This remains the current policy of the American Kennel Club.

The OP said his dog was a lab/retriever mix (I assume golden retriever, as labs are Labrador retrievers, but anyway) so my mixed comment was in regards to this dog.

Ive read a few different things on the silver being choc/yellow and the "white" labs as well.

All mine are hunting/field trial stock, but a good friend who we breed with is into the show arena and she said you cant show silvers or whites?

oh yeah, fwiw CUTE ASS PUP

Yea you cant show silver or whites..

i want/am looking at getting a white or silver but cant find any at the moment.. Well other than paying 950.00 for one..LMAO

I thinkkk what she might of meant is that you can not show them as a Silver or white lab. You'd have to show them as chocolate or yellow. When showing judges actually prefer the whiter color. The lighter the better. Personally I just like regular yellow.
FYI Those some really great looking mismarked labs you have there.
