I am trying to help out my friend. he has a 00 2wd silverado truck. He was driving it last night and had a loud pop while doing a normal turn. then it become insanely hard for him to turn. He was not far from home and it took a little bit of time but he got it home. we jacked it up today and it turn smoothly in both directions cranked and not cranked. A hose and the driverside rack is slightly wet with oil. The pump is full. When the truck was running on the jack stands I opened the pump reservoir and notice the power steering fluid was not moving around at all while testing the steering left and right. The fluid looks pretty good not burnt or anything. The pump was replaced about year ago. Any suggestions? Thanks

possibly a snapped shaft, in the pump. i had the same problem about 8 times with my dodge. possibly pieces of the gear in the steering box breaking and lodging in the pump.
