I have a 97 tj wrangler with 2.25 budgest 35 bfg mts with the transfer case what are the pros an cons to the sye an the drop transfer case? what would you all recommend doing?

t-case drop
-wear out motor mounts
-cheaper
-weaker
-puts powertrain out of factory angle
-easier

SYE
-expensive
-stronger
-will require purchase of new driveshaft
-maintains factory powertrain angle resulting in less stress on motor mounts.

x2 However you can make it cheaper if you can do your own ds from a front xj shaft.

So your saying try to get a drive shat from a xj instead of buying one correct?

I'm saying that an xj front is what a lot of xj guys bolt in. Makes the SYE swap much cheaper. A good driveshaft shop can cut one down for $40 - $50.

You can do a t-case drop for about $9, couple of 1.25" steel spacers and 10mm bolts. Lowes will have everything you need. Wont be the strongest option but it'll probly take care of some driveline vibrations.

If you have the money to do it, go ahead and do the SYE. It is the best option and is well worth it. But if you are on a tight budget then the t-case drop will eliminate some driveline vibrations but you will also lose some ground clearance on the belly of the Jeep. It is usually only and inch of drop usually but sometimes that one inch makes a difference on the trails.
