I'D love any and all help and advice with this project as possibile as its probably going to take some time and it'll be on a tight budget. I just picked up a 1997 Jeep Cherokee Country 4.0 AW4 4x4 not sure of the rest because I literally just droped it off the trailer after picking it up in raleigh for FREE. Altough it is missing something is in the dash like the radio and some other things it looks like and it does not have a head on it.... and theres no telling how long its been off or how many miles are on this car. What I wanted to start out figuring out was should I rebuild this engine and find a head or is it cheaper for find a pulled decent mileage engine. If its cheaper to rebuild it and get a head does anyone have any ideas on where and who to use..I don't the time of facility to do something like that..or if its cheaper to get a pulled 97 or newer engine with decent miles where could I find one thats in good running condition. All in all this is going to be a somewhat daily driver and a hardcore weekend wheeler. It will be one of two cars I'll be driving so it doesnt have to be to street tame. Over all id like to do a mid budget lift..3 to 3.5 inch and cut the fenders with some 33 or 35 inch tires, different gears 4.56 maybe? and decent streetable lockers with some good probably homebuilt bumpers if anyone knows anyone please let me know or have any ideas for for this build it would be grealy appreciated. thanks

Damn sure if it don't haha thats good stuff right there..i'll be in touch for sure..

Judging by all the rust on those cylinder walls you need an engine. Although now might be the time to bore and stroke it.

yeah, shes been sitting for a while with that much rust on the cyl walls, you could probably hit those walls with some wd40 and some 400 grit wetsand paper (using wd-40 kinda like a cutting lube), but its still gonna make it burn plenty of oil. Ive done it before, but I wouldnt suggest it unles you're in a bind.

I'd just keep an eye out for a good, used cheap motor. Yeu could do a very light rebuild of the motor you have if you have to. You could theoretically replace the rings, hone the cylinders, replace your connecting rod bearings all while your motor is still in the jeep, and other than a cylinder hone, ring compressor, and a torque wrench, it can be done with basic tools and not alot of money.

Yeah ive come to the conclusion im in the market for a good used decent mileage 97'or newer xj 4.0 engine...
if anyone knows of anything let me know..

Anyone know where I could find a decent mileage 97' or newer 4.0 to swap into my XJ. Im not going to rebuild whats in there dont have the time or the means nor feel like it would be as good as just finding something ready to drop in one afternoon. If anyone knows anything please let me know. Thanks

Well after further inspection of the new jeep im trying to turn in to my dd/ww i found some of the missing engine pieces in the back of the jeep under a pile of sh!t haha. Still think im still just going to replace the engine with something with decent mileage. Still on the hunt but think I came across something that has eletrical issues. If the engine has security or electrical issues in the jeep it sits in now and I just remove the engine and hook it to all of my wiring I should be good correct? I assume but I know what happens when you assume. Put pics in photobucket still having issues putting them straight on here.
