I have an ancient pressure washer with a Briggs & Stratton 11HP I/C (cast iron sleeve) horizontal motor.

Runs great -- but...every two or three hours of running, it'll just up and quit. No sputtering, no backfire, etc...it just quits and won't restart, even after a cool-down. Put in a new plug, and it will start right up and run fine for another couple of hours. Gap set at .030. Old plug looks good when it comes out, not fouled or anything.

Plug is an Autolite 255 (or whatever equivalent is at the nearest parts store when it quits).

Ideas?

Tank was nasty and cleaned it out this spring. Changed out filter. Carb hasn't been touched in 25 years that I've had it.

I used to use a 2 part epoxy to recoat fuel takes on old bikes. IIRC it is called Creame.

Once the fuel source is clean, do a carb job. I like a good dose of Mercury Power Tune if you don't want tear down the carb.

Do you have an in line filter prior to the carb?

My 8 hp BS tiller was doing what sounds like the same thing. I did a tank clean and rebuilt the carb thinking it was the problem. Still would quit after a while. Wound up replacing the "coil" and plug wire (all one unit on mine). Has run like a champ every since. Only thing I can figure is that once the coil got nice and hot it would quit spitting juice....
