Weren't there some guys on here who do concrete. Have a small patio I need to pour and for some reason the idea of mixing 50 80lb bags in a wheelbarrow sounds like a pretty beat idea in my mind. Just need a lil over a yard

Rent a mixer? Or have you called for a quote from any concrete companies to deliver?

I gave up the wheelbarrow mixing a long time ago. I have a really good 2 bag mixer of my own now but I don't rent it out. But I can give you a quote to come over and mix it and even float it for you if interested? Sounds like about a 2 hour job... With a mixer. A full day's worth and another to recouperate from back spasm's without one.

I priced it a month or so ago. I don't remember the exact numbers, but it was hand mixing ~40-50 bags with a rental mixer vs. calling a truck and buying a yard. The price was pretty close to a wash, if not favoring the truck by $20-50.

I think the truck was $100 for delivery and $100 per yard. 80# bags are $3.50-3.75/ea, and the mixer is $50 or $75 a day.

That said, if you're doing a patio, don't try it yourself. I've got a recommendation for a guy, but don't have his number handy.

Lowes is $3.85 right now for 80# quickcrete. 50 bags would be $205.98 counting taxes. I'm guessing you could have it delivered for same or less. Especially these days.

You can get a little cheaper by buying the raw portland cement, a truck load of sand and a load of gravel. But time and gas are factors.

Also consider that you don't want to cut yourself short! You can't run back to Lowes between mixes with temperatures outside like they are. Winter time (above freezing) is actually the best time to pour concrete for a better cure. I would imagine deliveries probably bring more than you order just in case they can make a sale?

Call and share some quotes. It would be very interesting!

As it happens, I'm doing 50 bags worth of footings this Saturday. Rented a mixer. You wanna come get some experience? :D

a couple of years ago,we set a monument in a swampy area behind trenches dug by the 26th North Carolina at the battlefield down in NewBern.I hauled in 50 bags of sacrete with my M38 and 416 trailer and then hauled water while 2 others mixed by hand.We had it mixed and completed in 2 hours. No way to get a truck down there.Get it trucked in if you can.Best way to go and then you will be done with it.Fifty bags is a big pile when you dump that first one in the pan.

Got mine done today. 89 Bags...7,120 lbs dry total. :) 2 bag electric mixer. Wasn't too bad, considering.
