This is about right. what it lacks in cost, it more than makes up for in lack of speed. Just the trade-off you have to make. Mine was 100% reliable, and pulled pretty strong, but was slow as molasses. Great deal for the price though.
I had one that I bought used and put on the trailer that I haul scrap with. We drug up everything you can imagine with it. Cars, trucks, vans ( with and without tires) farm equipment, and a bunch of other stuff that weighed more than the winch was rated for. It never once gave me a problem. I used if for several hours in a day and other than not being fast I had no complaints at all.
A 10,000 pound fuel drum got dropped on it and broke the clutch lever and Smittybilt nearly wet themselves to get me a part.
Unfortunately my wife was operating it with her head up her butt and let a chain get caught up in the drum and snapped it in two. Oh well she is cute so I will keep her.
ive had a smitty for also a year now. ive had one problem with it, it slipped once and caught. snapped 3 of the mounting bolt brakets. the housing was trashed. took it to 4wheelparts and had a replacement in 3 days. had to keep my original switch and sol-box.
if it came down to it again, heck yea i'd buy it again.
wish they had a saying like warn. lol
I have seen one out perform my M8000 maybe I had a bad one cause mine quit working but got a free replacement if they ask you for an extended warranty GET IT
