So my 94 gmt400 suburban mysteriously ran out of oil and coolant a few weeks ago ole lady had been driving it so that explains a little of it!!! anywho I mashed a plug Gap checking for blown head gasket and had a rough idle I'm working 7/12s this month so took to my mech and he found my idle issue with the plug! Idles still choppy but runs good as usual. Problem I'm having now is only at startup I get a white cloud of smoke that clears up after 14 seconds or so shit of it is I doesn't smell like coolant doesn't have a oil smell my oil isn't milky or bubbly what's really going on here? I can run it turn it off let it sit 30 mins and big cloud every time anyone got a clue before I break the bank on heads lol

My first guess would be valve stem seal. Slight leak, but once running, it burns off clean. B u t, if it ran hot, you still could have a head gasket problem, or a head problem.
I'd just drive it, & hope it doesn't get worse!

My first thought was valve guides but I'm guessing valve seals and all are factory I just hit 200k on this thing too so a set of heads may be in the near future! Will a compression test with rad cap off tell me if its head gasket if I go cylinder to cylinder?

If the compression test indicates no more than 15 percent between cylinders I would consider a leaking intake manifold gasket

I'm doing compression test Monday I'll post results I'm hoping it's just condensation bc it sat for two weeks but I'm usually not that lucky lol

Yeah and noticed small oil leak this afternoon leavin work! Carb cleaner should tell me if its manifold gasket I'm assuming!?

Depends on where it is leaking. My 5.7 dripped anti freeze off the starter. Found that leak changing the starter in the street. I could see the leak between the manifold and head on the 7.4. I had a shop find a miss fire on the 4.3 and changed the intake gasket for me . I have a cold only miss fire on the 6.0 that hope a new intake gasket will fix.

I think that only works on vacuum leaks. My 5.7 started getting a misfire code on #5. Couldn't Feel it, or see anything. But I noticed the radiator recovery tank, started getting low. Gasket was leaking into the #5 cylinder.

^ yeah I knew that only worked or vac leaks was long day wasn't thinkin to clearly
