Thought I'd post a few pics of the ftoy build so far. Everyone keep in mind I'm slow so don't expect any amazing advances every week. I pick up the chassis at the april fools event at Harlan at the end of the month.
Shot of the trussed, strapped, and shaved 85 front. I have a welded hp for it with a factory 4.10 gear. Those are the trail gear 3 inch springs plus their complete sas kit for the front. The frame is from a 87 runner.

I drilled and tapped my own steering box. The motor is a 85 22re rebuilt to factory specs. I hope to add a cam and header later on.

Sweet suspension seats, used of course. The tranny is a 85 yota auto with inchworms adapter to run mini truck cases. The front case is a 23 spline 2.28 case, the adapter is TG's new 23 spl adapter with what I think will end of a 23 spline 2.28 converted case till I try it to see if it needs more gear. I spoke with several ppl about the extra gearing and what they thought and after talking to my buddys bjack and 35xj, I think I'll try the stock geared dual cases before I jump into a 4.7 gear set. The rear case in it is 21 spline now, but not for long. I'm working on the cross members now. The tranny crossmember will also support a yota carrier bearing shaft to feed the hp front. I build dual yota cases, do 23 spline conversions, and low gear set installs if anyone needs that kind of work done.

Cool someone in this area is doing an f-toy.

Are you going to make it to ftoy spec?

Yes minus the safty crap till I decide if I'm going to be able to enter in the events.
My plans for this weekend is to finish and button up the ifs rear axle, it is also shaved an inch, diff strapped, 4 cyc third welded 4.10 gear. I also plan to do my own knuckle stud conversion on the front axle, build my own creeper gussets for the front and start frenching the rear TG spring hangers for the my 3 long travel rear springs.

Pic of the prepped ifs rear axle and springs and the hangers tacked in, the spring pads on the axle aren't tacked yet cause I need the chassis on it to get a better idea of how the springs will settle and where to mount the shackle hanger. I can't build the rear frame cross member till then either.

pic of the front approach with my 42 iroks on it. I plan to run a 37 or 39 irok but I like the look of the 42 if it had enough power. May have to try it just to see...

is the fuel injected motor legal now?
Yea, carb, efi, propane are all legal now. So are regeared diffs and any DOT tire, sticky or not. Oddly enough you can't run rear disc brakes, cutting brakes, driveline disconnect, or forced induction of any kind.

bjack your rig would be even more dope with the 42's on it, and we can't have that, I would have to buy/beg/borrow/steal it for sure then, with the shaved diffs it really does look like portal axles, I bolted the up onto the rear for a look see, they looked awesome.

your hangers are on backwards....
yea the rears are only there to hold place till I french the frame a little. I'd like to sink the new hangers an inch up into the frame. Nothing is welded for sure yet, that is why it's only tacked if you'll notice that to. On the front shackles I think I'll have to move the frame insert fwd an inch and up an inch cause the thing is going to be so light.

yea frenched hangers are the hotness, they arent as hard as you would think. depends on how good you are with a torch

Well I'm a full time welder and fabricator for a power company/contractor so I should be able to handle it, particularly with a  or two for encouragement. I just want to really take my time and do this right. My buddy is after me to link it and forget about the building it to the spec class rules.

I'm debating this now and I'm open to suggestions:
I'm thinking if I leave the leaf springs on it I'd be better off to buy 5.29 gears for the diffs and run a single 4.7 rear case. The rear driveshaft is going to be really steep right now and the yota auto is 6 inches longer than a W series manual. It's 50 inches from bellhousing to rear output flange with the doubler. If I link it I'll leave the duals and stretch the wb to 109 to make some rear dshaft and 90+ degree departure. I have all the stuff to link it front and rear with coilovers ft and air shoxs rear, so chime in, lets see if the masses agree with my buddy. If I link it I'll put the TG spings in my runner so I'll have no waste really. Kinda like recycling...

linking it seems to defeat the purpose you initially had for buying what you bought.

Exactly what I was thinking.
A built to spec ftoy would be way cooler.

Alright alright, me and dave talked it and figured it out from the fun point and cash flow point and decided I would be nuts to link the ftoy. I'm going to list the crawler box for sale and go with a single 4.7 box and 5.29 gears to give me: more rear driveshaft, eliminate the need for a carrier bearing on the front driveshaft and give me more rear seat room for the expanding family. The crawl will be better at 24.86 with the 5.29*4.7 vs the 21.31 with the 2.28*2.28*4.10, I figure with the auto I can get plenty of wheelspin by reving it out and shifting up since I don't have to clutch anymore I won't need the gear choices provided by the dual cases. It will still be spec class legal this way to. I'll get the front shackle hangers moved this weekend and maybe get some measurements for my driveshafts. I'll try to get some pics soon of the home made crawler gussets and completed front axle with the knuckle studs and steering on it.

good deal!

Ok made some progress.
-Chassis mounted front/rear
-propane stuff on the way
-rr springs inboarded and tucked up for flat belly.
-rr cross member made
-TJ rr bench coming to fit for rear seat
-pulled the auto and will be trading it with John at Alpine auto for the ft chromy shafts, and 4.7 gears.
Figured if I was going to keep it then I needed to have a rear seat for the growing family and the auto was to long to allow that to happen. So auto out and the short manual in.
I'll post few photos tomorrow.

Always liked the Ftoys. Should be an intresting buildup!

You ever get a single 4.7 case? I will have one for sale out of my rig soon that is a 4.7, twin sticked and chromo output shaft. Let me know if your intrested.
