I have recently upgraded the ol' Excursion with new injectors, Adrenaline HPOP, upgraded turbo, and also added new boots and hoses to everything. These additions made a big difference in performance, but also increased my EGTs. I tow the camper a good bit, and this made me nervous so I did some research and decided on a solution.

Last weekend I installed a Snow Performance Stage 3 Methanol Injection System. I haven't used it for towing yet, but from what I can tell this thing is going to be great. Using a 50/50 water-methanol mixture they claim that it adds 70HP, and my butt-o-meter agrees.

At WOT my exhaust temp hasn't exceeded 1150 degrees F while using the system, where if you stay in it with the system turned off it will approach 1350. Also, my boost pressure has jumped from about 25PSI to 28PSI.

I don't know how it affects fuel economy yet, but they say that it will be better.

I will give more feedback after I do a little bit of towing with it.

I haven't dealt with one on a diesel, but my Buick sure loves straight meth. Is your kit adjustable for when it starts spraying and how much it sprays? So if you put around on it and just drive gently would it not spray?

If I go to a different single turbo on my 06 cummins I plan on looking into this. I mostly DD my truck and tow a 4500lb trailer plus whatever vehicle is on it.

My system is a fully modulating kit for economy, and then when the second stage kicks in it is very noticeable. You can fine tune it on how you want it to modulate and when to bring in the second stage.

50/50

I found a place in Clover, SC where I can buy the Methanol pretty cheap and then mix it myself. The place is called:

FHS Supply, Inc.
244 Bethel Hill Rd.
PO Box 9
Clover, SC
Sales: (800) 742-8484

I tried both straight snow performance brand methanol and straight windshield washer fluid on a dyno and saw an almost negligible difference in power (on the old truck). Turbo'd gas engines gain a lot more from straight meth as you can run your timing so far advanced.

My K30 could use some water/meth, but I never got around to it. At WOT, I'll see 56lbs of boost and about 1400 degrees for a split second. If nothing else, it sure does keep the intake side of the motor pretty damn clean!

Last time I checked, I could get methanol for like 5 bucks a gallon (it may be cheaper now)...but mix that 50/50 with water and it'd turn in to 10 gallons. So even that wasn't too awfully expensive.

@Brando welder How much water/meth you use will depend on how hard you're driving it. It's all dependent on boost pressure to activate the nozzles in the intake piping. More boost, more water/meth. That one may even read EGTs and adjust accordingly since it's the fancy, electronic setup. The one I was going to use was just two pressure switches set at two different boost levels since the Cummins in my truck is archaic and entirely mechanical :D

My transmission agrees with the butt-o-meter. It shifts a lot firmer with the methanol applied. It has the same affect as putting the Adrenaline in about position 4.

Methanol is about $2.95 a gallon if you buy it by the gallon. If you buy a 54 gallon drum it is $160 including a steel drum.

This was many months ago when gas was wayyy higher...so it probably is a LOT cheaper by now.

Just to clarify this system reads boost pressure and exhaust temperature to control the amount it injects.

For egt control water is just fine. We saw very small differences between boost juice (snow's brand at the time), washer fluid and a 50/50 mix.
