So when do you usually run out of shielding gas?

Yea I'm wondering how long my 40 psi is going to last next time I fire up the Miller 210

Dont want it to be on the weekend because I bought it from airgas and they are only open during normal hours.

I've been trying to get back on a project and had all day today and most of tomorrow to make progress. I started tacking it together around 5pm today and splat!
Mine is a big tank so I'll have to go to Praxiar to get another next week. Would love to have a spare tank already full but those suckers are expensive for a hobby welder!
At least the the cutting and fitting is all done. Maybe I'll have beers for breakfast :beer:
 
been there, done that. My last "stop me dead in my tracks" issue was when the liner in my gun came apart friday around 8pm.
As for welding gas, I bought a small backup bottle, relatively cheap (maybe $120 new) it is small, but it is handy for when I need to do something out of the garage or when The big tank runs out unexpectedly.....cuz it is always unexpectedly.
 
Ran out once on a Saturday. Airgas, etc were closed, so went to local industrial supply, because I had a project that absolutely had to be done that weekend. Got there 5 minutes before closing time (noon). Bought a 160 tank. Already had 2 empty ones. Got home. New tank was empty. :( Must have been put in the wrong pile.

What's this problem you speak of...........and I still manage to run out of something.
 
95% chance it will be on a Sat night.
But, since I do 95% of my welding on Saturday nights... that checks out.
 
I run out when I need it most. Another solution is to keep a roll of fc wire on hand. (Ok so my backup welder is a Hobart 140, set up for might, and usually run my HF fcaw) but yeah, run out of what I need when I'm needing it.

Thanks I appreciate the offer, I’ll just wait until I get a new bottle I have some other things to take care of Sunday.

Tractor Supply open all weekend ..... just saying.
For the haters ...... some of the old coots could use a coat hanger and a hand full of treebark and out weld any mig ever made.

My machine is capable of stick and I’m pretty good at it but this is very visible work and some is in very tight spaces and there’s a lot of it. I’m doing frame repairs so I want it to look good!
 
This is why you have two bottles and a Thoroughbred exchange nearby. They will exchange anyone's bottle as long as you own it. Including at 8 on a Saturday night.
 
Napa is open on Saturday, last time I ran out they didn’t have the same size bottle to exchange so they upsized me for free and I left my small bottle there for them to exchange during the week. So now I have two bottles

We used coat hangers for filler rod when we used oxy and acetylene back in high school.
 
I'm really putting some consideration into Argon tank size. I'm about to get a tank going so I can Tig at the house. The dread of actually running out is not that high since I'm sure I could probably borrow one on a Sunday morning if need be. Perks to working in a welding shop.
Otherwise, I've never had that problem living the stick life.

Get the largest you can afford, you'll run through a smaller tank in no time with tig.
